Ash Seats and Carrying Yokes...Deeply contoured with a rounder softer edge to increase your comfort when kneeling or carrying your canoe. Durable urethane finish with the look of hand-rubbed oil.  Definitely not the stock wood seat and yoke found on most canoes.

Decks...Made of tough roto-molded polyethylene with comfortable molded-in carrying grip that is easy on your hand. The deck is fastened to the canoe with aluminum rivets plus three stainless steel bolts.

Gunwale...A Mohawk exclusive with a rounder inside edge. Pick up a Mohawk from the side and feel the difference - no sharp inside edges to cut into your hand. A special aluminum insert slides inside the gunwale to reinforce stress areas where the carrying yoke is attached.

WHY DOES MOHAWK USE ALUMINUM HANGERS FOR SEAT INSTALLATION?

*If you would like to change the height or angle of your seat you may purchase a kit from Mohawk, or as an option, have it installed when you purchase your canoe.

Mohawks seat adjustment system is more versatile than most because you not only have the option of raising and tilting your seat, but you can also lower it. This is much more difficult with 6" bolts and spacer.

This is the normal seat position

Seat in raised position

Spacers moved to tilt the seat

Seat lowered for extra stability

Tilted seat in lower position

These "Seat Adjuster" kits are $3.00 per seat, installed or sold separately.

A FEATURE TO LOOK FOR WHILE CANOE SHOPPING

Excessive Rake

Rake:  As described in the dictionary is the angle of incline from the vertical or from the horizontal.

Some rake aids a canoe when being removed from its mold. It also helps manufactures stack unassembled canoe hulls for ease of storage and shipping. Excessive rake changes a canoes waterline length. If a canoe has excessive rake,  it shortens the waterline length.

Example 1      A 16 foot canoe with 2 inches of rake at each end has a 15 foot 8 inch waterline

Example 2     A 16 foot canoe with 7 inches of rake at each end has a 14 foot 10 inch waterline.

The bottom line is, look at the rake, you don't have to measure it. Just look to see if it is relatively close to the overall length. If the canoe you are looking at has excessive rake. you will actually have a shorter waterline. Meaning, you could have purchased a shorter, lighter canoe.

Hot Tip...For easy carrying and loading, buy a lightweight Mohawk R-84 Royalite canoe instead of a heavy, flexible bottom, warp-prone polyethylene canoe.
